NSW introduces regulation to prohibit short-term letting

Early April saw significant changes for NSW with new legislation. Owners corporations can now ban short-term rental accommodation services, such as Airbnb and Stayz, when the property is not the owner’s principal place of residence.

The owners corporation will be able to prohibit short-term rental accommodation by adopting a by-law via a special resolution (a 75% majority).

The changes come about via amendments to the Fair Trading Act 1987 and Strata Schemes Management Act 2015.
